Kim's Story

I have navigated my own mental health battles, facing challenges such as PTSD, bouts of depression, and anxiety. Struggling with negative intrusive thoughts, I often found myself questioning my worth and lacking confidence.

However, the tragic loss of my vibrant nephew, Nate, to a drunk driving accident in 2013 deeply shook our family and community. Overwhelmed with grief and anger, I grappled with waves of depression, anxiety, and persistent feelings of my own and my families insecurity. Seeking solace, I increasingly found refuge in my garden.

In 2019, the passing of my father propelled me on a journey of introspection and change. Feeling trapped and unable to move forward, I realised it was time for a shift. With a desire to reclaim my sense of purpose and vitality, I I embarked on a path of healing and transformation.

Innerbloom grew from an idea that begun in my garden
I enrolled in certificate 2 Horticulture Course. As part of the course requirements, I undertook a garden project that would soon become a source of solace and inspiration.

Tending to my garden bed, filled with resilient native plants , became a grounding and meditative practice. Understanding the transformative potential of gardening, I delved into research on Therapeutic Horticulture, discovering it's profound benefits for mental health and emotional and physical wellbeing.

With this newfound understanding, I nurtured my dream of creating a space where healing and growth flourish, and in time, Innerbloom Gardening Therapy began to take root.

Through this journey, I have witnessed a profound need for alternative approaches to mental health support. Gardening Therapy emerged as a powerful modality, offering a holistic path to healing and connection. Now armed with a Diploma in Counselling, Certificate 3 Horticulture, and a certificate of attainment in Therapeutic Horticulture, I'm fuelling my passion to support individuals in our community and share the transformation benefits of nature and nurture.
